The American Dream

Buy a house...

Start a Family...

For Trevor and Ashlyn, it was supposed to be the beginning of everything.

But at What Cost?

A working-class man from the city buys a house in the countryside after a break-in leaves his wife traumatized. Once moved in, the couple becomes the target of a relentless game of cat-and-mouse, leading to a psychologically horrifying revelation.

Trevor and Ashlyn

Trevor & Ashlyn

Trevor, a former truck driver adjusting to a career in the corporate world, aspires for both financial security and the joys of family life.

Recently married to Ashlyn, a resilient nurse in training, ready to build their future together.

The break-in

The Break-In

While Trevor is away on business, an intruder breaks into their apartment, leaving Ashlyn emotionally scarred.

Desperate to get her out of the city, Trevor turns to his childhood friend Eddie for help.

Eddie

A Deal with the Devil

Eddie, a shifty banker with questionable business ethics, offers a deal: a foreclosed house and fraudulent mortgage Trevor can't afford.

All he has to do is return the favor.

Trevor's choice

The Leap

Trevor jumps at the opportunity, willing to sacrifice his morals without telling Ashlyn.

He buys the house at a foreclosure auction — a decision that will set everything in motion.

The quaint town

A New Beginning

After convincing Ashlyn to move in for the summer, she discovers the potential of their new home and the allure of the quaint town.

Despite lingering trauma, Ashlyn begins to heal, finding peace as she gets her life back on track.

Henry

You Don't Belong Here

Meanwhile, Trevor is plagued by Henry — an unhinged local determined to drive the couple away. He is believed to be a vagrant, squatting in the house before it was purchased.

Henry's incessant stalking, vandalism, and escalating threats drive Trevor into a spiral of isolation and paranoia.

The revelation

The Revelation

Pushed to the brink of insanity, Trevor makes a terrifying realization: Henry is not flesh and blood, but a vengeful spirit that has been conjured by Trevor's own guilt about how he acquired the house.

To find redemption, Trevor must confront not only the poltergeist, but the darkness within himself.

The American Dream
is Dead

A Film That Feels Real

Textural. Not too polished. A film that exudes emotion while conveying meaning. Messy. Real.

The house at night

The House

The house is a main character in this film. This location is SO important. It may be a composite — a house we find on a lake and a front exterior we find that works better in a different area.

Photographing the lead

Photographing Our Lead

Trevor should feel mysterious. Strong. Enigmatic. We don't know exactly what is going on in his mind. He has come far from his upbringing — but how much trauma does he carry?

The City

The City

The juxtaposition of this claustrophobic, vertical jungle of steel, concrete and glass and the lush, quiet, slow small-town experience needs to be immediate.

The Town

The Town

We have to want to live here upon first sight. Inviting. Quaint. Relaxing. The perfect foil to the city. But come night or later in the day, we start to see the seams.

"I love the idea of getting close ups of characters in moments of mania — an eyeball, teeth... a nose followed by a shot of maggot-infested meat. To show how cruel nature can be and to drive home the point that we are all in the jungle in some way."
